Picture a beautiful model naked. Now imagine how you would light her. Where do you start? Where does your key light go? How about your fill? Do you need a hair light snoot? Never mind that.
How about your camera settings? Lens? Posing?
Bad news: That’s just the fundamentals. How about creating dramatic light? Light meant for a fashion centerfold. Light that curves and bends around your model’s hips and thighs. That rounds her edges. Reveals her moody depth and unapproachable sexiness.
How do you make that kind of light? How about cost? And gear? Wait, hold up. Breathe. Let me give you some good news: Adding drama with Dramatic lighting can be simple.
Dan Hostettler knows this class of light. He’s made a career out of it. He’s inspired by very elegant, minimalistic, lighting setups that achieve the moody and the sensual – with as little headaches as possible.
Drama is his gorgeous lighting guide to inspiring your next glamour/nude photo shoot. Not only does it cover the basics of lighting – including illustrated how-to’s – it’ll also breakdown Hostettler’s favorite techniques and ideas.
The Lighting Basics: An Introduction To Adding Drama With Lighting Glamour/Nude Models
Lighting a glamour/nude scene requires knowing the fundamentals as well as the creative aspects to controlling light. In other words, it’s good to know what an Octobox is. But it’s better to know why you would use Octobox instead of Beauty Dish.
At the beginning of this ebook, you’ll learn the basics of lighting. And you’ll learn all the different types of gear. Then learn the principles to shaping light. But that’s standard, nowadays.
What makes this ebook special is the illustrated how-to’s explaining the theories behind the text. You’ll get precise instruction into making light bend to your imagination. It makes it so easy to understand exactly what Dan is teaching and will take your lighting skills up a notch instantly.
And with the background knowledge acquired, with the confidence of knowing your gear, you’ll be ready to start making dramatic light and killer nude photography

Deconstruct 6 beautiful shoots. My favorite part of this book.
The heart of this ebook is its showcase section. And without a doubt, it’s worthy. I mean, the introduction to lighting basics is good and all, but I spent more than a decent amount of time reading the pages in Hostettler’s showcase.
Why? Because each chapter breakdowns a different type of setup. Giving you a insider look into 6 shoots. Each of them unique and thematically different. They are setups you’ll want to learn to replicate.
In each chapter, you’ll read about the scenario faced in each shoot. Learn what challenges were unique to the set. Learn the inspiration. Some examples? You’ll understand how to focus the eye with just a bodysuit. Use monochromatic walls to increase interest. And how to work with shapes and symmetry.
Then each setup is deconstructed. You’ll understand the reasoning behind each artistic decision. You’ll understand how to define and shape visual emphasis. For instance, you’ll learn how to emphasize a model’s height and length with just a simple spot light. Or why using a light from window is best.
You’ll also get set notes in each chapter. You’ll learn what gear was used. Which includes camera and lens settings. You’ll learn the exact ISO, WB, Shutter speed, and aperture.
And unique to this ebook, you’ll also get a 3D setup (example above) of each shoot. With this computer generated visualization, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes representation of the set. You’l be able to see angles and perspectives otherwise not seen.
And my favorite. At the end of each chapter, you’ll get a lighting diagram that you can use to replicate Hostettler’s setup in your own studio. And get the notes to achieve a more perfect facsimile.
So what do you get with Drama?
